What is orthokeratology?
Orthokeratology, also known as nocturnal orthokeratology, is a non-surgical technique used for the correction of eyesight defects. More in detail, it is a form of reversible refractive correction, which involves the nighttime usage of contact lenses in order to remodel the cornea during sleep. This type of “breathable” lenses with high oxygen intensity work to temporarily reverse the effects of myopia during the night, in order for the wearer to have clear eyesight the next day, without eyeglasses or contact lenses. Orthokeratology is used in cases where various types of ametropia are to be corrected, such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. However, in some cases, it can also help in the tempo-rary treatment of presbyopia. Resorting to orthokeratology is also indicated to slow the progression of myopia in children and adolescents. -
How long does it take to achieve good eyesight?
Some patients are able to achieve a complete eyesight correction after the first night of usage already, but in some cases some more days might be necessary. In cases of severe visual impairments, 10-14 days of treatment might be needed. -
How long does the effect last?
You should be able to see clearly without glasses or lenses for a day or two, sometimes even more than that. In order to achieve optimal results, it is appropriate to apply the lenses every night. -
When can I start?
